Jaira Stewart
From her early years, the rugged landscape of New Mexico would strongly influence Jaira Stewart’s artwork. She would transform her love for the land into sculpted glass. Stewart was introduced to glass in 2009 at Tesuque Glassworks, where she learned blowing and sculpting from Charlie Miner and others. Today you can find her working and showing at Liquid Light Glass.
Her works echo the New Mexico landscape—from the micro-world of lichen to the grandeur of sunsets over mesas. She hopes to convey a reverence for all that the land represents. She shares an Arapaho proverb that says, “When we show our respect for other living things, they respond with respect for us.” Stewart hand-sculpts molten glass, creating works that evoke life and death and the beautiful ballet between.
